MIND & BODY WELLNESS

Objective: To enhance one's ability for self care by learning and incorporating new techniques into activities of daily living. To facilitate recovery from cancer through application of physical and/or mental exercises that have been documented to improve aspects of living with cancer. 

Complementary therapy is used along with standard or mainstream medical treatment. Some complementary therapies may help relieve certain symptoms of cancer, relieve side effects of cancer treatment, or improve a patient’s sense of well-being.

*Acupuncture:

The technique of inserting thin needles through the skin at specific points on the body to control pain and other symptoms.A medical system that has been used for thousands of years to prevent, diagnose, and treat disease. It is based on the belief that qi (the body's vital energy) flows along meridians (channels) in the body and keeps a person’s spiritual, emotional, mental, and physical health in balance. Traditional Chinese medicine aims to restore the body’s balance and harmony between the natural opposing forces of yin and yang, which can block qi and cause disease. Acupuncture is used to treat many illnesses and ailments; however, it is mainly used to control pain, including cancer pain, and to help control nausea and vomiting.There is strong evidence from clinical trials that acupuncture relieves nausea and vomiting caused by chemotherapy.

*Massage Therapy: 
Therapeutic massage and bodywork is an excellent way to support you in staying healthy, stimulating immune system functioning, and allowing the body to deeply rest and heal from cancer and cancer treatment. The adaptation of massage to safely nurture body, mind and spirit of anyone who is dealing with cancer. Oncology massage brings a measure of pleasure and peace into lives filled with pain and worry.

*Reiki: Reiki is based on the belief that spiritual energy can be channeled through a Reiki practitioner to heal the patient's spirit. This is thought to help release the body's natural healing powers. Reiki is most often given as a hands-on treatment, but it may also be sent from a distance. The word Reiki comes from Japanese terms that translate as "universal life energy."

*Therapeutic Touch:
Therapeutic Touch is a contemporary interpretation of several ancient-healing practices. It is an intentionally directed process of energy exchange during which the practitioner uses the hands as a focus to facilitate the healing process.It promotes relaxation, enhances one’s sense of comfort and well being, and promotes calmness. Therapeutic Touch can also reduce stress, anxiety, and pain. Therapeutic Touch promotes comfort in acute and chronic illnesses and has been shown to reduce the symptoms from chemotherapy and radiation therapies.

*Jin Shin Jyutsu: Jin Shin Jyutsu is the Art of releasing tensions which are the causes for various symptoms in the body. Our bodies contain several energy pathways that feed life into all of our cells. When one or more of these paths become blocked, this damming effect may lead to discomfort or even pain. This blockage or stagnation will not only disrupt the local area but will continue and eventually disharmonize the complete path or paths of the energy flow. Through Jin Shin Jyutsu our awareness is awakened to the simple fact that we are endowed with the ability to harmonize and balance ourselves (in rhythm with the universe) physically, mentally and spiritually.

**Gentle Yoga: Gentle Yoga is a class designed for people who want a slower pace and the extra support of props for added stability and balance. It is suitable for all levels as well as those with specific conditions or injuries. Each person will be accommodated where they are. No prior experience is required. Basic yoga postures and breathing techniques will be introduced in a stress-free,non-competitive, and supportive environment.

**Himalayan Singing Bowls: Using the singing bowls as the main modality in group meditation sessions has been very effective and is a transformative experience. Bring a blanket and pillow of your own or use what we have at the house. Everyone is already seen as a whole, but if you have forgotten, it may be because it is easy to get caught up in the story of your pain. Join us and take part in an instrumental process that will help allow yourself readiness to heal.

**Meditation: Meditation is a mind-body process that uses concentration or reflection to relax the body and calm the mind. It has been defined as the intentional self-regulation of attention, a mental focus on a particular aspect of one’s inner or outer experience.

**Whole Body Laughter: (Closed enrollment) Whole Body Laughter is a fun blend of laughter, meditation, yogic breathing exercises & games designed to lighten your spirit, reduce stress, lower blood pressure, improve circulation, life balance, strength, optimism, clarity, focus and peace of mind.  We will also explore the topics of "primary foods" through play.  Primary foods are the elements in your life that can enhance or hinder vibrant living (such as relationships, career and more).  Each series will be designed to suit the unique needs of the registered participants.
