What is C.U.F.F. Cancer?
Presented by the Salt Lake County Deputy
Sheriff Federation and Albertsons Women
Initiative Network, CUFF Cancer
is a fundraiser for families affected by
cancer. Law enforcement officials and
community members raise funds and in turn
have their heads shaved as a physical
demonstration of support for those
individuals and families living with a
cancer.
Presented in a carnival atmosphere and
inviting for families of all ages, this is
truly a community event.
Where did the C.U.F.F. Cancer event begin?
C.U.F.F. Cancer is a
“Fund-Razor” that was started in 1998 by the
Vermont Law Enforcement community. It is
modeled after the “Cops for Cancer” program
in Ontario, Canada. The program began when
an Edmonton Officer met a 5-year-old boy
named Lyle who had been undergoing cancer
treatment. The officer decided to help Lyle
by showing him that it was okay to be bald.
Lyle took pictures by the police car with
several other officers who also decided to
shave their heads in honor of Lyle.
Who does C.U.F.F. Cancer Benefit?
Monies raised benefit the family programs at
Cancer Wellness House, a support community
for children, teens, men and women. The
Cancer Wellness House provides free
programs for anyone touched by cancer
through support groups, well-being workshops
and social events.
Voted “Cancer Facility of the Year” in 2005
by the Utah Department of Health, the Cancer
Wellness House guides thousands of children,
teens, and adults through the cancer journey
by caring and compassionate volunteers and
facilitators at the House.
All Donations are tax deductible.
